Scarlet and Ivy Book Series Review

Below is the review of Scarlet and Ivy Book Series by my 8-year-old and 10-year-old, who read the series at different times during last year and thoroughly enjoyed them. They are big Harry Potter fans and started their thriller journey from the classic JK Rowling series. I will leave it to them below to share their voice, combined into one review:

Sometime during 2025, we started reading Scarlet and Ivy, and I soon got interested. This book includes murder, mystery, secrets and rivalries and is a classic thriller. Personally, we loved the series and would recommend it for ages 9 and above.

This series is full of different twists and turns, leaving you puzzled until you read the whole series. There is a bit of cheeky humour and some pretending going on too. The biggest twist is that none of this happens at random places. It all happens at one specific school called Rookwood School, or at Scarlet and Ivy’s home.

The reason we liked this series so much is because it is very different from other books. You must be wondering how. Well, starting with most kids’ series are not thrillers, plus this happens not just at any normal school, this school is only for girls. Since this series is about friends and teamwork, and like we mentioned, it is a thriller but also funny.

One thing that makes the series even more interesting is that girls are getting empowered throughout the story. Also, in mostly every book there is a new antagonist, making every Scarlet and Ivy book different from each other.

The books have two viewpoints, Scarlet’s and Ivy’s, except the first one, which only has Ivy’s viewpoint. For us, two viewpoints are better than one — it gives us more perspective. In the books, old stories arise, though there are very few boys in the series. Throughout the series, every book has a lesson.

So, if you’re interested in thrillers, please read Scarlet and Ivy.

There are 6 books in this series:

  1. The Lost Twin
  2. The Whispers in the Walls
  3. The Dance in the Dark
  4. The Lights Under the Lake
  5. The Curse in the Candlelight
  6. The Last Secret

PS – We would not recommend reading this book at bed time unless you are ready for nightmares.
